This year’s portrayal is designed in mind with the need to continually enforce adequate preparedness during the hurricane season and to highlight the continuous contribution that MAS Action as a band makes to carnival and by and large St. Lucia's cultural entertainment, but the theme.
The band will also be bringing to the fore the consequences for not doing so - the recent destruction done by Hurricane Tomas now bears testimony to this. This hurricane also highlighted the deficiencies in the St. Lucia building code, as many houses were lost as a result of poor building practices and could have been minimized if persons had taken notice of the suggestions and early warnings which normally pre-empt these severe storms.
The portrayal also plays tribute to the many agencies and first time responders whose personnel came out to assist despite their own losses so as to ensure the populace and country were brought back to normalcy in the shortest space of time.
We also have used the portrayal to highlight the resilience of the St. Lucians who quickly adjusted to the many changes brought about by Hurricane Tomas and showed that despite our own personal hardships were able to reach out to our brothers and sisters in their time of distress.
